Due to lockdown regulations and for a number of therapeutic and practical reasons, consultations are currently only available online.  Sessions are available from 13:00 – 18:30 on Tuesdays to Fridays and 10:00 – 15:30 every second Saturday (South African Time).  The online practice will remain open after lockdown for people who require or prefer online consultations.

The aim of the services at the practice is to be as helpful as possible to an individual, couple or larger family considering their unique needs and contexts. The first step would be to complete an initial assessment of your needs and then to discuss options in order to formulate a plan to meet them. This may involve continuing consultations with Desiré and/or referral to affiliated practitioners when appropriate (e.g. general practitioner/psychiatrist to exclude general medical conditions or for psychopharmacological support). An initial assessment process is usually completed in 1-2 standard sessions and is also an opportunity for you to meet Desiré and decide whether you are comfortable to work with her. The rapport between you and your psychologist is an essential part of effective therapy.

Standard sessions are 50-60 minutes long and the 2020 cash rate per standard session is R900. The first session is payable up front, but can be claimed back from your medical aid if you have medical aid savings or benefits that cover psychological services. Any payments not covered by your medical aid could also be included as medical expenditure in your tax return. If you continue consultations with Desiré after the initial assessment, we would be able to submit claims directly to your medical aid if you prefer and would charge the scheme’s respective rate. Certain conditions qualify for cover under Prescribed Minimum Benefits and if your needs are eligible, the practice will assist you in applying for these.
